VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are an active part of Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity's success: they make possible the building and repairing of homes in our area.

By volunteering with WLSHFH you are making an active difference in your community:

Find the right volunteer opportunity for you

Construction Volunteer

We are always looking for volunteers on our work sites to think creatively, problem solve, and work with a group to help us work on our neighbors’ homes. Experienced or not, volunteering with WLSHFH will allow you to learn skills that will allow you to work on your own home as well as being a part of a solution to the housing crisis in the area. Many of our volunteers have worked on painting, installation, trimming, window installation, framing, and even stuccoing. Only able to volunteer for a few hours? No problem! We will work with your schedule so that we can get you out on our housing projects. Have a social group that you want to join in? No problem! We always love working with groups who are passionate about their community.

Volunteer Leaders: The Blue Hard Hats

We are looking for community leaders who are experienced with carpentry or construction who want to lead our volunteers on project sites in our Blue Hard Hat (BHH) volunteer program. Projects have included for past BHH leaders has been building a shed; replacing a deck with an elongated stutter-step; painting garages with a group of volunteers. These leaders would represent WLSHFH in a unique role as a representative of the affiliate. We will work with a Blue Hard Hat volunteer’s schedule so that they can lead at their convenience!

Office Volunteer

Office volunteers will help keep our administrative tasks running smoothly through a variety of tasks; the primary task will be assisting our office to track donor and volunteer data through a CRM so that we can coordinate with the community more efficiently. We need motivated people who have been or want to be involved with data entry, filing, preparing mailings, designing marketing materials, and writing the monthly e-newsletter. We work with everyone who has an interest in helping the office become more impactful. If you are eager to join but have a hectic schedule or physical limitations, we can work with you so that you can help improve your community.

Student volunteers

Looking to make your resume more district while also working on improving your community? There are several ways ways you can  volunteer with WLSHFH: in a committee to use what you have learned in your classes; by working on a project site with a team; by running a fundraising event at your school to raise awareness and funding; or by working in the office to study our CRM and dataentry.  You can be a fantastic asset to this Habitat affiliate while learning new skills that will help you in your professional career.

Committees form part of the governance of WLSHFH that help raise awareness of the organization; select families to help service with either Age in Place or home building; plan construction scheduling for the homes for the volunteers. Each committee works to enhance the affiliate’s organizational capacity to better serve the community. Our committees include Construction and Site Selection, Family Selection and Support, Marketing and Development, and Finance, and meet on a monthly basis (1-4 hours a month). There is an interview process, so please apply through the volunteer page.
